What is Border Collie Bird Control (BCBC)

Why are the geese a problem?
Each goose can produce from 1/2-1 1/2 pounds of manure per day. If you have 30 pairs, in a one month period they can be depositing just under 3,000 pounds of manure on your parks, greens and fairways. The geese are also feeding on the turf on the golf courses.
The urban geese we find in parks and golf courses are enticed by the lakes and rivers, and succulent choice of feed available. Unfortunately, these urban areas where the geese are problematic are often free of natural predators, as a result approximately 90% of the young survive to return each year. Within five years the Canada goose population can double.
Why use a Border Collie?
The Border Collie has been found to be extremely effective in hazing geese because of the way it moves and because its "eye" (the way it stalks) is similar to that of the Canada gooses' natural predators; the coyote and the wolf. The geese perceive a genuine threat that is not perceived by using other breeds of dogs or by using mechanized vehicles.
Are the geese harmed?
At no time are the geese actually touched by the dog. The goal is simply to make the birds feel threatened, so that they choose to nest/eat somewhere else. In fact, using the Border Collie to haze the geese is recommended by environmentalists as well as animal rights' activists.
